Delhi government's Business Blasters programme launched in September in all its schools as part of Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum (EMC) is receiving encouraging response from students, who are coming up with many practical and innovative business ideas. The government also launched a TV show and a website where students may pitch their projects to investors.

Speaking to Education Times, Deepak Kumar Mittal, mentor teacher, Directorate of Education (DoE), says, “Students in Delhi government schools are coming up with many diversified and innovative business ideas which are practical in nature. During the orientation of students, we had asked them to think of practical business ideas that have growth possibilities for social and economic impact.”

Several students have pitched interesting and practical ideas. For instance, one team of students bought sweaters and kurtas from the market and after embroidering, sold them for a good profit. The idea here is not limited to selling and purchasing only, but also to encourage innovation.
“The other team of students worked upon making sensor-based doorbells that restricts physical touch and spread of infection. Also, an alarm bell has been made by the students which would detect the gas leakage from the cylinders and Bluetooth speakers have also been made by the students.

State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has provided business coaches to schools, who are guiding the local entrepreneurs and students. Few alumni who are studying BBA or MBA, have taken the role of business coaches in some schools.”

Mittal further says that in every school there are about one to two business coaches who are helping the students to furnish their business ideas.

Kuldeep Singh, principal, Government Boys Senior Secondary School (GBSSS) Number 1, Adarsh Nagar says, “Students are picking ideas from their surroundings like bag printing, T-shirt printing, mug printing and stitching eco-friendly bags from old clothes. We conducted one day Business Blasters workshop in our school with the help of resource persons to motivate students."

Around 780 students were given Rs 15,000-16,000 to work on their ideas.
