Chandigarh, December 11

The City Congress lambasted Sanjay Tandon, former president of the Chandigarh BJP, for making “false claims” on his party’s performance.

In a statement issued today, Rajiv Sharma, spokesperson for the Chandigarh Congress, said instead of patting their own back, the BJP should actually apologise to the people of Chandigarh for failing on all fronts.

When the BJP took over in 2015, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation had a fixed deposit of Rs500 crore, thanks to efficient working of the Congress led-MC from 2001 to 2014. Today, this entire amount has been squandered by the BJP-led MC by indulging in corrupt practices and wasteful expenditure. Rajiv Sharma, spokesperson, Chandigarh Congress

“BJP councillors have indulged in a massive corruption in the past six years. This is evident from the fact that despite backbreaking increase in taxes, the corporation finds it even difficult to pay salaries to its employees,” he alleged.

“When the BJP took over in 2015, the corporation had a fixed deposit of Rs500 crore, thanks to efficient working of the Congress led-MC from 2001 to 2014. Today, this entire amount has been squandered by the BJP-led MC by indulging in corrupt practices and wasteful expenditure,” he alleged further.

He said the Congress would recommend an inquiry into the “rampant corruption” that prevailed in the MC in the past six years in order to expose the BJP.

Rebutting the insinuation that the Congress was in quarantine so far, Sharma stated that the Congress was continuously engaged in highlighting the real issues of the city in the past six years.
