After an enforced Covid-19 break, Kaizer Chiefs surged to second place on the DStv Premiership log after beating Sekhukhune United 2-0 at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Phathutshedzo Nange in the 25th and 87th minutes respectively sealed Chiefs' seventh win from 14 games as the Naturena side shrugged off their Covid-19 outbreak to collect maximum points.

They were without Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat, and coach Stuart Baxter, but they put together a side that was far from threadbare.

Arthur Zwane manned the team from the bench.

In a game where Chiefs were the better side for large swathes, they scored first from a Ngcobo long-range screamer that squeezed past Sekhukhune United keeper Toaster Nsabata.

The insurance goal from substitute Nange came far later than expected, but their win moved them two points clear of third-placed Orlando Pirates, with Chiefs still having a game in hand.

However, they remain 12 points adrift of log-leading Mamelodi Sundowns, who were made to work for their 1-0 win against a Covid-19-struck SuperSport United on Saturday.
