Six Feet Under funeral home drama series from 2001-2005 may come back to life in HBO follow-up
Nearly two decades after the funeral home drama series Six Feet Under debuted, HBO may have a follow-up to the hit show.
The show, which aired from 2001-2005 for five seasons and 63 episodes, followed the lives of the Fisher family and their associates in the operation of a funeral home in Los Angeles.
The follow-up has no writers attached to the project or a plot line as of yet, according to a report from Variety magazine.

The cast from the original series included Lauren Ambrose, 43; Frances Conroy, 68; Rachel Griffiths, 52; Michael C. Hall, 50; Peter Krause, 56; Mathew St. Patrick, 53; and, Freddy Rodriguez, 46.
Family patriarch Nate Fisher Sr., who was played by 74-year-old Richard Jenkins in the series, died in the opening episode.
Fisher appears in flashbacks and in the minds of his family members.
The show also served as an early launch pad for people like Justina Machado, 49, who played the character role of Vanessa Diaz, and Rainn Wilson, 55, who had a recurring part as Arthur Martin from 2003 to 2005.

Machado is also known for her roles as Penelope Alvarez on the Netflix and Pop TV sitcom One Day at a Time, Darci Factor in The CW series Jane the Virgin, and Brenda on the USA drama Queen of the South.
Wilson is best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on the NBC sitcom The Office, for which he earned three consecutive Emmy Award nominations for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
The magazine also reports that it isn't clear whether the series, which is in a very early development stage, is a reboot of the original show or a sequel following up on existing characters from the show nearly two decades after the series called it quits.

Original series creator Alan Ball and executive producers Bob Greenblatt and David Janollari are all said to be associated with the new series.
In its five seasons, Six Feet Under received 53 total Emmy nominations, winning nine.
The show also picked up best drama series in 2002 and multiple Golden Globe wins.
