ERODE: A man died and 11 others suffered breathing difficulties after
liquid chlorine gas leaked in a bleaching powder manufacturing unit near
Chithode in
Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Damodharan, 47, of Nadupalayam village. He was running the bleaching powder manufacturing unit named Sridhar Chemicals.
“When liquid chlorine gas started leaking, Damodharan suffered breathing difficulties. He swooned and died," said Erode district collector
H Krishnanunni who visited the spot.
He said six of the 11 people who suffered breathing difficulties were rushed to Government Hospital in Erode town and their condition was said to be stable.
Fire and rescue services personnel from Erode and
Perundurai fire stations rushed to the spot and sealed the leakage with the help of a technician.
The Chithode police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
