Six students, teacher drown in Krishna river

VIJAYAWADA: In a tragic incident, six students of a Veda patasala and their teacher drowned in the Krishna River near Madipadu of Achampeta mandal in Guntur district on Friday.

According to police, the students, hailing from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, had been studying at the Veda patasala for the last five years. On Friday, they went for a swim along with their teacher in Krishna River.
Soon after all the six entered the river, they were reportedly caught in whirlpools and drowned.

 

The deceased have been identified as Harshith Shukla (15), Subham Trivedi (17), Anshuman Shukla (14), Siva Sarma (14), Nitish Kumar Dikshit (15) and their teacher K. Subramanyam (24), hailing from Narasaraopet.
Police are on the lookout for their bodies in downstream areas.

AP Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has expressed grief over the death of students and their teacher. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
