Grenade 'planted' at intending candidate's residence

Imphal, December 09 2021: A grenade was planted at the residence of Md Nasiruddin Khan (Boboy) at Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai today and he has allegedly been threatened not to contest in the upcoming election.
As per the information received from the sources, the family members of Md Nasiruddin Khan who is intending to contest in the upcoming Assembly election from Keirao Assembly Constituency found the grenade lying on the inner side of the gate at around 4.30 am.
Subsequently, the Irilbung Police Station was informed and a Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad of Manipur Police came to the spot and defused the bomb before detonating it safely at Keirao Awaching.
A letter was also found lying beneath the grenade warning Boboy not to contest in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, the locals staged a sit in protest in front of the gate of Boboy's residence today afternoon condemning the act.
Addressing the gathering, Boboy said that there is no place for violence in democracy and maintained that he has not received any form of threats from any organisations earlier.
He also strongly denounced the way the act has been carried out refraining him from contesting the election.
Further he appealed to all to work collectively to ensure that the upcoming election is held in a peaceful manner.
He also clarified that he has not joined the political party 'Apna Dal' and clarified that some one with a similar name may have joined the party.
The general secretary of United Clubs Coordinating Committee (UCCOC), Ahmad Ali while condemning the incident in the strongest terms appealed to all concerned involved with the act to provide a clarification on the matter at the earliest.
