Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar gets letter with death threats; says 'shocked to read the language written in the letter'

MUMBAI: A letter threatening to kill Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar was received at her residence at Byculla in Mumbai on Friday.
The letter, sent through the post, originated from Uran, said a police officer.
The one-page letter contained abusive language.
Security at the mayor's bunglow in Byculla in Mumbai has been tightened (Sanjay Hadkar TOI).
A police source said that the letter sender had used very abusive language and threatened to shoot Pednekar.
"The letter has a name but it could be a pseudo name. It's an unsigned letter," said a senior IPS officer.
Pednekar said she received the same on Friday morning.
“On reading it I was shocked to read the language written in the letter and being a women I couldn’t read it any further," a tearful Pednekar said.

She said, "They have threatened to kill me and also my family. Earlier, there would be remarks made on political life, but the letter has targeted me and my family."
"The letter is written by one Vijendra Mhatre and has come from Uran. The dispatch is from Panvel while the address mentioned is from my earlier home,” she said.
The Mumbai mayor said, “No ordinary person will just write a letter as such. I have full confidence in Mumbai Police and they will surely search who is the culprit in the matter. The letter sent to me has been taken into police custody. The level of politics in Mumbai is falling to a large extent.”
“Politics is dropping to such a worst level that even women are not being spared today. The letter has come in my name and my security handed it over to me this morning. I was shocked on seeing the letter as to how such shameful language can be used,” the mayor said.
The police sources said they are inquiring into the letter.
A case of criminal intimidation is likely to be registered against the letter sender, said the officer.
The cops are also inquiring to find out about the person who posted the letter from a post office in Uran.
