IGP alerts public on social media rumours

Imphal, December 09 2021: Appealing to the people not to believe the attempts being made by some group to portray the police in bad light, IGP Zone-I K Jayanta Singh has urged all concerned to refrain from such acts and for the people to remain vigilant against them.
Addressing a press meet held at the conference hall of SP Imphal West along with DIG Range-I Themthing Ngasangva and Range-II K Kabib on Thursday; Jayanta said that there have been many law and order situations in the state.
Recently, a commanding officer of Assam Rifles was killed in an ambush at Behiang in Churachandpur district along with his wife and son and other personnel.
On top of this, there have been instances of labourers being killed at the worksite, threats made to social and political workers, businessmen and traders via phone, in addition to planting of bombs at shops and private residences.
Stating that the police department has been working hard to protect the people and ensure justice is served, the IGP further stated that the department is conducting investigations in the aforementioned cases.
If any government employees, political workers, businessmen and traders are found to be involved, they will be arrested and punished accordingly.
However, it is unfortunate that attempts are being made to portray the police department in bad light on social media platforms.
Thus, he appealed to the people not to believe such allegations, while adding that the police are not working under any political leader.
With regard to the recent seizure of huge consignment of drugs in Moreh and the demands of CSOs through local dailies to publicise names of the owners, he informed that the police is investigating the case thoroughly and necessary legal procedure is being carried out.
As of now, the owner of the drugs has been identified as Kimneilhing Kipgen (43) d/o Ngulkholam Kipgen of Phaicham Veng, Moreh Ward no 3 .
She is the wife of a Chinese national and is currently residing in Myanmar.
Efforts are being made to arrest her as soon as possible, he conveyed.
