Thoubal, December 08 2021: Wabagai Block Congress Committee (WBCC) president Md Kheiruddin has refuted the allegations levelled by intending candidate in Wabagai assembly constituency Md Sakir Ahmed in the media that on December 5-6 his brother Najir Ahmed was beaten by Congress workers and called it an attempt to defame Congress and people of Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai.
Addressing a press meet at Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai on Wednesday, Kheiruddin stated that they have talked to alleged perpetrator of the incident that happened on December 4 night namely, Md Najir Khan, son of Md Karimuddin of Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai.
Najir Khan revealed that on December 4 he was returning home after ferrying people in his van.
On reaching home, a Hyundai i20 car was found parked in front of his house and even after repeatedly blowing horn and calling, no one came.
After sometime, a person showed up and there was an altercation on the issue of random parking.
He did not know that person was brother of Md Sakir Ahmed nor the person identified himself or said that he was there for election campaign, Najir recounted.
Citing Najir's narration of the incident, Kheiruddin reasoned that considering the circumstances, Md Sakir Ahmed should not malign Congress workers who did not have any relation to the incident and the people of the locality.
Let the upcoming election be held in a free and fair manner, and let's not indulge in propaganda, he stressed.
The WBCC president mentioned that Congress has been winning the Wabagai AC for two terms now and during the last election, it did not indulge in any violence against opponent candidates.
Congress is fighting election for development.
It is unfortunate that the victim was a Muslim religious preacher and Congress workers are very sorry for him, but if a person preaches any particular faith he/she must speak the truth, Md Najir Khan clearly stated that there was no gun involved during the incident.
So, being a religious persons Najir must not exaggerate, he remarked.
