Delhi Live News: Three weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of the three farm laws and days after Parliament officially annulled them, protesting farmers brought the curtains down on their year-long agitation Saturday and began to vacate the protest sites at the Tikri and Singhu borders.

At the Tikri protest site, farmers spent most of Friday morning dismantling their makeshift tents, packing their belongings, and taking stock of items that had to be donated to the poor. Some farmers from Punjab’s Mansa district also decided to take memorabilia from their year-long protest that ended on Thursday — soil packed into tiny plastic jars and protest pamphlets safely tucked away into bags.

The year-long protest had presented an unprecedented political crisis for the NDA Government, including the loss of a key ally, and drawn the attention of the Supreme Court. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is an umbrella body of about 40 protesting farm unions, said that with the Centre agreeing to several demands, “the current agitation stands suspended”.

Some residents of Khandsa, Mohammadpur Jharsa, Begumpur Khatola villages and members of right-wing groups occupied a designated namaz site outside Gurgaon’s Sector 37 police station on Friday and conducted a “condolence meeting” to pay tribute to CDS Bipin Rawat and others killed in Wednesday’s helicopter crash. The group did not allow members of the Muslim community to offer Friday prayers, which were also disrupted at Sector 44 and Sector 29.

A day after a low-intensity blast took place inside courtroom 102 at Rohini district court, the Delhi Police has been informed by forensic experts and the NSG that the “tiffin bomb’s” circuit was not assembled properly, due to which only the detonator and not the half kg ammonium nitrate-based explosives went off, The Indian Express has learnt.

“Forensic experts said the bomb was placed in a steel tiffin and had ammonium nitrate-based explosives. It also had a significant amount of shrapnel. But during assembly, it was not placed properly… It appears only the detonator exploded… It was not a crude bomb and the angle of terrorism cannot be ruled out,” said a police source.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Friday said that namaz should not be offered in the open and the practice “will not be tolerated”, adding that an earlier decision where some sites had been reserved for the purpose had been withdrawn.

Asked about Friday prayers being disrupted in Gurgaon over the past few weeks, Khattar said: “We have told the police and the Deputy Commissioner that this issue has to be resolved. To resolve it, everyone offers prayers at their own place, someone offers namaz, someone does paath, someone does puja, we have no issue with that. And religious places are built for these purposes only so that prayers are offered there. Such practises should not take place in the open, this practice of offering namaz prayers here in the open, this will not be tolerated.”
