Imphal, December 08 2021: Congress MLA AK Mirabai has questioned why the N Biren-led BJP government, which claims to have improved the law and order situation in the state, is unable to repeal AFSPA from Manipur, compared to the previous Ibobi-led Congress government which revoked AFSPA from 7 assembly segments of Greater Imphal area.
On Wednesday, AK Mirabai inaugurated a resting area of the elderly, "Rendevous" and a Meira Shangfor Lukram Leirak Chanura Liching Marup at Tera Lukram Leirak and a house for a destitute family constructed under the MLA LADF during a function organised by Lukram Leirak Veterans' Welfare Association (LLVWA) .
Responding to questions from reporters regarding the silence of CM N Biren over calls for repeal of AFSPA made by his counterparts in other states following the recent incident in Mon district of Nagaland; the Patsoi MLA said that that Biren's failure in repealing AFSPA from the state, despite claiming to have improved the law and order situation in the state, has clearly demonstrated his shortcomings.
Mirabai recalled Biren as one of the courageous ministers during the previous Congress government.
However, his courage seems to have wilted after coming to power.
At one time, Biren scolded the previous government for its incapability in demolishing insurgent camps.
He is now the chief minister of the state and can translate all that he had said into action.
Unfortunately, he is continuing to stay silent despite having the power in hands to make significant changes, she remarked.
Urging CM N Biren to take the sentiments of the people into account and repeal AFSPA from the state at the earliest, the MLA commented: "It is easy to speak brave words.
However, it is much difficult to put the said words into action" .
Regarding the inaugural function, the MLA recalled all the development works undertaken in Patsoi AC till date and assured of continuing to work for the welfare of the people in the future.
The function was also attended by LLVWA president S Dineshwor Singh, Changangei Zilla Parishad member S Marjit Singh, Lamjaotongba GP pradhan E Sushila Devi, social worker L Rokoban and other prominent personalities.
