CCpur, December 08 2021: The State police began a manhunt for one 28 year old man following the recovery of one middle aged man's corpse from Khuga Lake.
M Pumzalian Ngaihte (58), a resident of Khominthang, New Lamka along with Nehkhohao (28), son of (L) Laltinkhum of Valpakot shared a hut near the lake.
However both went missing last weekend when their employer along with others visited the hut.
On close inspection, they discovered untouched cooked food inside the hut.
Upon further scrutiny of the area, they also reportedly discovered blood stains at several locations and a firewood stained with blood and hair.
Initially it was suspected that someone might have attacked the duo but it soon came to light that Nehkhohao was seen by people after the reported incident occurred.
This led the police to speculate that one of them had murdered the other after which the culprit went into hiding.
Soon the police issued a lookout notice for Nehkhohao, seeking information of his whereabouts and promised a reward of Rs 15000 to anyone who could provide information leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, various CSOs began a hunt for the other missing logger, Pumzalian Ngaihte, since Monday both on land and inside the Khuga water.
Blood stains on a makeshift boat used by the duo to raft over Khuga Lake had raised suspicion on the possibility of the body being dumped in the water after he was killed.
Today, as the search continued for the third consecutive day, the corpse of Pumzalian, as suspected, was found floating in the water.
The CSO members who led the search retrieved the already decomposed body and the same was handed over to the police.
A forensic team from Imphal visited the crime scene today and an autopsy is set to be conducted tomorrow.
Subsequent to the recovery of the body, the police have issued a wanted tag on Nehkhohao for murder with a monetary reward of Rs 20,000 .
