Imphal, December 08 2021: Eastern Border Area Development Authority (EBADA) organised a one-day Skill Development Gardeners' Training Capacity Building programme, along with distribution of apple saplings, beekeeping boxes and tea saplings at the training hall of Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation on Wednesday.
The programme, sponsored by North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, was organised under Promotion of Small Holder Value Chain System for Organic Horticulture Crops Conservation in Manipur.
EBADA member secretary and additional chief secretary (Horticulture and Soil Conservation) P Vaiphei, Horticulture and Soil Conservation joint director K Devdutta Sharma, additional director Hinchara, EBADA project director N Loyalakpa and Planning director N Kulkarni attended the programme as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Horticulture and Soil Conservation joint director K Devdutta Sharma lamented that poppy plantations are being carried out in hill areas due to greed for earning easy money in a short period of time.
However, poppy plantation is illegal and even the Almighty will not permit earning money through wrongful means.
Thus, EBADA and Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) as part of the state government's 'War on Drugs' campaign, have been encouraging plantation of high yielding crops in the hill areas and organising such capacity building programmes for the same.
Informing that MOMO has been making efforts to increase the organic farming total area space in the state to around 1 hectare, Devdutta said that the training programme will be beneficial to farmers.
He then urged the farmers to produce good quality produces.
Further informing that the state government would be setting up a Honey Mission Cell, the joint director mentioned the process to be included under the Cell such as honey processing, training, packaging.
The Mission will help in making the honey industry of the state successful, he added.
