Imphal, December 07 2021: The proposed 72-hour shutdown called by the Konsakhul Area Joint Action Committee (KAJAC) in connection with the naming of National Sports University has been suspended with immediate effect.
The development came after a meeting chaired by Letpao Haokip, YAS Minister in the presence of Deputy Speaker, K Robindro; H Dingo, MLA Sekmai AC and KAJAC representatives.
After a marathon discussion, it was agreed to rename the name of National Sports University as NSU Konsakhul (Haraoching) as proposed by KAJAC.
However, it is learnt that the final decision on the matter would be taken after consulting with all the stakeholders on December 11 .
In the meantime, Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organization (SKSCJDO) has warned that the State Government, in no way, can compromise with anyone in the matters related to land ownership and nomenclature of NSU.
SKSCJDO, in a press release, said that the owner- ship claim of Konsakhul over the NSU site is not acceptable.
The very place is inherited by the Senjam Khunou, Senjam Chirang and Koutruk residents from their forefathers who purchased it legally and as such Konsakhul should not make any absurd land ownership claim, the organization said.
Making such a claim will only result in dissension among communities and set a bad precedent that may haunt generations, it said while adding that they should rather work towards creating an environment conducive to all, it said.
If Konsakhul really thinks the land belongs to them, they may put forth the case before the Court and settle it according to the law of the land, it said.
While maintaining that employing muscle power in this matter may prove futile, the organization further appealed to other irrelevant organisations not to meddle into the matter.
