Drugs worth over Rs 500 cr seized, Myanmar man held

Moreh, December 07 2021: In the biggest ever haul of contraband drugs in the entire North East, a combined team of Moreh police and 43 Assam Rifles seized suspected heroin and crystal meth-amphetamine commonly known as crystal meth worth over Rs 500 crore in the international market from one house located at Sunrise ground at Moreh near Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate no 2, yesterday.
Speaking to the media at the at the conference hall of Moreh police, Tengnoupal SP Th Vikramjit stated that the combined team, as a part of the Government's War on Drugs campaign, received a tip off about stocking and re-packaging of narcotic substances in the particular house which also served as a re-distribution facility.
Reportedly, the team was led by Major Bharat and Inspector Sanjeev Kumar and the drive was conducted under the supervision of 43 AR Commandant Sumit Sood and Th Vikramjit.
Based on the information, the team carried out an inspection drive at the area yesterday and detained one man coming out from the house carrying a red bag in a Kenbo bike, the SP said.
According to the SP, the person has been identified as Monkhai (19) s/o ( L) Thang En Mang from Myanmar.
The police arrested him at around 2 pm .
Maintaining that 220 soap cases of heroin were seized from him along with the Kenbo bike, the SP continued that the combined then went inside the targeted house and seized a huge quantity of narcotic substances.
The seized narcotic substances include 3936 soap cases of suspected heroin powder weighing 54 kg (approx), 152 packets of crystal meth weighing 154 kg (approx) and plastic packaging materials, Th Vikramjit informed.
It is reported that the monetary value of the seized heroin and crystal meth would be around Rs 108 crore and Rs 400 crore respectively in the international market.
The arrested person has been handed over to the Moreh police along with the seized narcotic substances.
