Halle Berry admits she got tired of looking at herself during edit of directorial debut Bruised

Halle Berry admitted Tuesday on Late Night With Seth Meyers that she got tired of looking at herself while editing her directorial debut sports drama Bruised.

The 55-year-old Oscar-winning actress both stars in and directed Bruised, which began streaming last month on Netflix.

'I heard that you don't actually like watching yourself on camera. Does that make directing yourself almost impossible?,' Seth, 47, asked Halle who appeared remotely on the NBC talk show.

'Not impossible to direct, but impossible to watch. The edit was gnarly. I mean, I really got tired of looking at my face and looking at myself,' said Halle, who plays a former MMA fighter in Bruised.

'And I kept trying to cut myself out, and my editor was like, 'You know, you have to stay in this movie you're the protagonist.' I kept saying, 'But you know, you don't really need me here. You don't need that shot on me here.'' It's really very hard,' she added.

Halle said she also never watches any of her old movies because it's 'painful'.

'I never see them again, except this one,' she said.

Seth asked Halle about bringing her 13-year-old daughter Nahla to watch early cuts of the film.

'Yeah. I wanted to show her because this movie took almost three years of my life and she wanted to see, like, 'What have you been doing all this time with your time, mom?',' Halle said.

Halle said her daughter unfortunately only saw two love scenes and the color wasn't quite right.

'Because those were two scenes that could tell us very clearly where we were with our color grade. And so that's all she got to see, and at the end, she was like ''So, that's what you've been doing for three years great. Great, mom'',' Halle said.

Halle said that after she broke her ribs early in filming that she never considered quitting.

'No, I had by that time, after 2 1/2 years of training, I felt like a fighter and I had the fighting spirit inside me, and quitting is just never what fighters do. I mean, they fight with dislocated shoulders, broken bones, torn this, torn that, and just quitting is not an option. It's gonna take a referee to say stop, you know,' she said.

Bruised was the number one film in the US on Netflix and also hit the top spot in nearly two dozen countries.

Netflix and Halle following its success announced the beginning of a new partnership for her to produce and star in films for the streaming service.
