Imphal, December 07 2021: A team of All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union (AMGSU) led by its education secretary Janak Poudyal paid a surprise visit to Bishnulal Government High School, Charhajare on Tuesday.
In a release, AMGSU informed that the team was very much surprised to know the ground reality or the school during the visit though good number of students have been enrolled in IX and X standard numbering 76 and 75 students respectively in this current academic year.
Due to the Covid-19 SOPs, the students have been divided into two sections each.
But when the Union team reached the school, students of two sections were found out of their class rooms.
When the team enquired about the students loitering outside, the headmaster explained that there were only two teachers posted for secondary section, it added.
AMGSU asserted that this shows that the Education Department has completely neglected government schools in hill areas.
Education Department is working only on the paper but the reality is quite different.
There are many other schools in the hills facing same problem of shortage of teachers.
This is clear evidence that the department is not focusing on the students studying in government schools.
Frequent transfer of teachers lead to derailment of career of students in government institutions, it lamented.
AMGSU also demanded that the government amend the rules and regulations of posting and transfer policy.
A teacher posted in government school must work at least for three years continuously.
Government teachers must also work considering the future of students where they are posted.
AMGSU along with the other students' organisations will continue to visit other government institutions specifically in the hills area for the welfare of the students.
The Union along will other students' bodies will launch democratic form of agitation if authorities concerned fail to send adequate number of subject wise teachers at Bishnulal Government High School within five days, it cautioned.
AMGSU further pointed out that the students of government institutions were not taking the online classes as majority of the parents are unable to afford smartphones for their children.
As such, authority concerned must ensure to bring quality education in the government institutions.
