India registers 8,439 cases, 195 deaths; active cases lowest in 555 days

NEW DELHI: India has reported 8,439 new cases of Covid-19 and 195 deaths in the last 24 hours, a bulletin released by the Union health ministry on Wednesday stated.

, the government said. Active cases account for less than 1% of total cases - currently at 0.27% - the lowest since March 2020, it said.

India's has recorded a recovery rate of 98.36%, which is the highest since March 2020.
Meanwhile, as many as 9,525 recoveries in the last 24 hours have pushed the total number of recoveries to 3,40,89,137, as per the bulletin.

Daily positivity rate, at 0.70%, has been less than 2% for the last 65 days, the ministry said on Wednesday. The weekly positivity rate, at 0.76%, has remained below 1% for last 24 days.
The government also said that a total of 65.06 crore tests for Covid have been conducted so far.

Also, 1,29,54,19,975 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under nationwide vaccination drive, the government said, adding that 73,62,000 doses were administered in a span of 24 hours.
