Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will take stock of the Covid-related data from officials and experts on Wednesday. He'll place it before the state cabinet on Thursday. After a cabinet discussion, there are likely to be a few curbs in some of the districts in Karnataka.

The exercise is being carried out, keeping the upcoming celebrations for Christmas and New year in mind.

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar, however, said that there is no point in imposing curbs."The fear of Covid is spread only by the media. There is no livelihood for people because of Covid. There are isolated cases, but the state government can't put curbs on its own. It needs to work in tandem with the central government."

The Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh had earlier said that the government will close schools again if the Covid-19 situation goes out of hand. Recently, a large number of students and staff of a medical college in Hubballi-Dharwad tested positive for Covid-19.

With 299 fresh cases, Karnataka ranked among the top five states contributing to the Covid caseload in the country.

The Karnataka government on Tuesday released testing rates for international travellers arriving to Bengaluru. The cost of an RT-PCR at the airport was fixed at Rs 500. Costs of the ‘Express Tests’ ranged between Rs 1,200 and Rs 3,000.

The Karnataka government had earlier issued new Covid-safety guidelines, allowing only people with both doses of vaccine to enter shopping malls and cinema halls after cases of the Omicron variant were reported in the state.
