Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols, 88, lights up Comic Con LA with beaming smile during tribute celebrating her retirement from public appearances
Nichelle Nichols will forever be linked to the all mighty Star Trek franchise with her role as Nyota Uhura in the original television series that aired back in the late 1960s.
And over the weekend, some lucky fans got to share a few moments with Nichelle Nichols, one of the ladies of the main of the classic science-fiction series during Los Angeles Comic Con, which included a special farewell dinner.
Now 88-years-old, Nichols has decided to call it a day and retire from public convention appearances, which are a mainstay for iconic show's like Star Trek.

With her farewell tour well underway, the Illinois native sat in front to soak in the farewell dance and video tribute, among other treats.
She looked lovely in a black and white-patterned blazer with black pants and a matching top, and a touch of accessories like a white stone necklace.
On this day, with her son Kyle Johnson siting alongside her, Nichols had her tresses pulled back off her face that fell to about shoulder-length.

Like his mother, Johnson appeared to be overjoyed over the attention and recognition his mother received during the celebration.
Now in need of the assistance of a wheel chair, Nichols was all smiles as she watched the festivities, in what is the third and final day of the farewell celebration.
Dr. Mae Jemison, a former NASA astronaut, was on hand hand to share some of her story.
She became the first Black woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

The original Star Trek series, which followed the travels of the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), consisted of 79 episodes over three seasons, from 1966 to 1969.
Along with the TV show, she also appeared in the franchise's first six feature films, beginning in 1979 and through 1991.
Nichols is among the four surviving members of themain Star Trek cast, including William Shatner (Capt. James T. Kirk), George Takei ( Dr. Hikaru Sulu) and Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov).
