PUNE: With increased vaccination response, Pune district now has less than one lakh target beneficiaries who still have to receive their first dose against Covid-19. On Sunday, the vaccination drive was under way at 200 sites taking the total number of beneficiaries vaccinated with first shot to 82.60 lakh; the target for Pune district is 83.42 lakh beneficiaries. District health authorities said by the second week of December, the remaining beneficiaries will be vaccinated. Sanjay Deshmukh, assistant director (medical), public health department, Pune circle, told TOI, “The state government has asked us to achieve 100% vaccination by December 15, which is within our reach now. With news of the Omicron variant creating ripples, vaccination has seen a major boost across the district, state, and country.” When asked about the public health department being prepared in view of the increased demand for vaccination, Deshmukh said sufficient vaccines are available. There are around 1.25 lakh doses of Covishield and Covaxin in buffer stock and 2.25 lakh doses with Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Pune rural units. On Sunday, though many vaccination centres were closed, around 23,317 jabs were administered across the district’s 245 government and private sites till 8pm. The district has now administered 1.36 crore doses of Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V, of which 82.68 lakh are first doses and 53.41 lakh are second doses.
