JORHAT, Dec 4: A boy who was arrested late night on Friday by police in connection with the AASU leader lynching case which occurred on November 29, was produced in the Juvenile Court here after parents claimed him to be a minor.
He has been sent to the Child Observation Home at Lichubari and will be lodged there till police ascertain whether he is actually below 18 years of age, a senior police official here said.
Thirteen persons were arrested in the lynching case on November 29 and 30 and 12 were produced in the court on November 30 following which the court had remanded seven among them to police custody and five to judicial custody.
The prime accused Neeraj Das alias Kola Lora Das died in a road accident at Cinnamara Khariya Chuk on the Jorhat-Mariani Road on the outskirts here in the intervening night of November 30 and December 1 while allegedly trying to escape from police custody.

Earlier the SP assured that the identity of the people who came forward to provide evidence to police will not be revealed.
The SP had also assured that witnesses would be protected, if required, under the Protection Scheme, 2018.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also been constituted on Thursday by Jorhat police to supervise the investigation of the mob-lynching incident at the Truck Stand at AT Road in which an AASU leader of Golaghat district Animesh Bhuyan was killed and two others injured.
It may be also mentioned that the AASU central leaders during their participation at a protest meeting organised by the students’ body on Tuesday had demanded that the Government form an SIT to probe the mob lynching case.
