Longewala war, Captain
Dharamveer Singh of 23 Punjab unit, said he was the first to give the information of
Pakistan’s attack to his then-boss Major Chandpuri.
The major was at Longewala and sent the message to headquarters through operator Raj Kumar. Although no one believed this information then, Dharamveer made them hear the thundering of tanks.

He said, "On December 4 at 10 am, he had gone foot patrolling with his colleagues on the border from Longewala post at a distance of 20 to 22 km. At the international border, around 4pm, I heard the thundering sound of Pakistani tanks moving towards India."
After it was dark, he went to the watchtower and saw a full brigade of Pakistan tanks and alerted his seniors. The Indian army and air force sprang into action after getting the information.
Col Dharamveer Singh said there were only 20 to 22 jawans at the border post, who somehow kept the Pak army occupied for the entire night and in the morning, got the help of Hunter planes from the air force.
