Guv urges Jiribam denizens to avail benefits of projects

Imphal, December 03 2021: Governor La Ganesan on Friday interacted with district level officers and CSO leaders of Jiribam district and stressed the need for keeping surrounding of every house and public place neat and clean to prevent spread of new variants of COVID-19.During the interaction programme held at Police Guest House, Jiribam, La Ganesan said that his first objective since becoming Governor of Manipur is to visit every district headquarters of the state to understand culture and traditions of the people.
He also said that he had visited six district headquarters so far and was fortunate to be at Jiribam district headquarters to interact with district level officers and CSO leaders.
Acknowledging that Jiribam is popularly known as western gate of Manipur and the district is developing at a faster pace particularly in trade and commerce sector, he said Manipur has now figured in the railway map of the country and the highest railway bridge in the world is being constructed along the Jiribam-Imphal railway line.
Ganesan also expressed confidence that Jiribam would become a developed district within a short time once the railway project gets fully operational.
Jiribam district administration has been taking a big role in fighting COVID-19 pandemic and the clear example for this has been cent percent vaccination of eligible people in the district.
Though vaccination has been completed, now is not the time for people of the district to be complacent from the virus as the newest COVID-19 variant Omicron had already been reported in the country and there is no guarantee that it would not reach Manipur, he cautioned.
The Governor reiterated the importance of keeping surroundings of every household neat and clean to prevent spread of any contagious diseases.
He also asserted that only the wealthy sections of the society and businessmen had close relation with banks around 30 years back till 2014 but such a trend has been changed as the new government is able to establish relation between banks and every section of citizens including women by allowing them to open bankaccounts and provide facilities under various schemes of the government.
He then appealed to district level officers to work at their best levels to provide benefits of government schemes including health and social security schemes to the people.
The interaction programme was attended by top officials of Jiribam district administration, district police officers and leaders of CSOs working in Jiribam district.
During his maiden visit to the district, the Governor also lauded the district administration on achieving 88 per cent literacy rate and remaining free from insurgency-related incidents in-spite of absence of border fencing.
He also congratulated the district administration on Jiribam recently adjudged as the cleanest town with less than 23,000 population in India, North East Zone and called upon the gathering to contribute their mite towards further development of the society.
He urged the people to avail schemes like Van Dhan Yojana under Tribal Affairs Ministry to improve income generation through value addition of products based on skills and abilities.
"Please visit your district level officers and get details of the various schemes to develop the district thereby developing Manipur", appealed the Governor.
Among others, the interaction session was marked by notes of appreciation from civil society leaders over the Ganesan's goodwill visit to the district.
