PUNE: As many as 189 Covid patients were discharged in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) on Friday as against the addition of 175 new infections. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and rural areas added less than 50 patients during the day. However, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits recorded 84 new cases of the infection. Among the patents discharged on Friday, 99 were from the PMC areas and 44 from the PCMC limits. The rural belt and the Cantonment areas registered 46 recoveries. A report released by district health officer Bhagwan Pawar stated that 13,356 samples were checked in the region on Friday. This pushed the progressive tally of sample testing to 86.8 lakh. As many as 5,962 tests were conducted in the PMC limits, 3,434 in the PCMC areas and 3,960 samples in the rural and Cantonment localities. One patient each succumbed to the infection each in PMC and rural areas. Incidentally, the PMC areas had not registered a single casualty due to Covid i the past five days. One person had succumbed to the contagion in the PCMC area on Thursday, while the rural areas had registered two casualties due to the contagion. The active case tally in the region had reached to a new low of 1,870 on Wednesday. It recorded a slight increase on Thursday. The region's tally of active patients dropped to 1,912 on Friday evening. As many as 1,262 patients were in home isolation and 650 were being treated in various hospitals. A senior health official said they were monitoring the cases both in the rural and urban pockets. The tally of positive cases in the region reached 11.58 lakh on Friday evening and the number of recoveries increased to 11.36 lakh.
