Imphal, December 02 2021: Langthabal Intellectual Forum has called for making the 2022 state assembly elections free and fair by upholding the true essence of democracy.

In a statement, the Forum expressed concern over the escalating violent incidents in Langthabal assembly constituency in the run up to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

It then appealed to the intending candidates in the constituency to shun gun culture while reminding that dictatorship has no place in democracy.

Considering the evolving situations, there are high possibilities of resorting to money, muscle and gun power in the election.

The forum fears that the value of democracy will be diluted in this trend.

It is unfortunate for a sitting MLA to indulge in violence recently and it was not the first incident.

Even an intending candidate was framed and the candidate landed in jail, the statement said, while calling upon the public to exercise their voting rights freely to choose the right candidate.
