Hyderabad: Adventurous men who tend to touch women are in for a shock, literally, when the lady wears a specific type of coat aptly named ‘Abhaya’. The coat, developed by three Hyderabad-based BTech graduates, including a designer, not only sends a jolt of electricity into the hands of the evildoer, but also causes a myriad of other safety measures. And it keeps the woman wearing it warm and comfortable!
In case a woman wearing the ‘Abhaya’ coat is faced with such a situation, she just needs to press a few buttons that activate a device to send light electric shock, send SMS alerts to five registered contacts stored by the user in a special mobile application and record the GPS location. It does not stop there, it also sounds a penetrating alarm and initiates an SOS call to the nearest police station, which shares the location with the GPS, said R Shashank Reddy, one of the three partners Telangana Today.
“Even if the victim forgets in such situations or does not succeed in pressing the buttons, the friction or intensity during any wrestling is enough to activate the safety measures,” he said.
The prototype of the coat was unveiled here by MLC K Kavitha on Friday. These coats at about Rs 3 500 per piece, are made of denim and bohemian cloth and are equipped with emergency buttons on the left and right side.
Kavitha complimented the three graduates, saying Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao gives top priority to women’s safety. “Telangana government has introduced She Teams and is taking strict action against people who misbehave or harass women,” she said.
