Shawkat plays the role of writer Madelyn Pugh in the Amazon film, which also features J.K Simmons and Nina Arianda portraying William Frawley and Vivian Vance, the actors who played Fred and Ethel on the iconic sitcom.

The biographical drama from writer-director Aaron Sorkin examines a week in which Ball and Arnaz dealt with personal and professional crisis amid their run atop TV, as they 'are threatened by shocking personal accusations, a political smear, and cultural taboos,' according to the studio synopsis.

Sorkin chat with The Hollywood Reporter last month about the existing passion people have for the show, which initially ran from 1951-1957.

'As word got out that I was doing this, what I discovered is that there are people who are really passionate about I Love Lucy,' he said. 'For me, it’s nostalgic. I remember watching I Love Lucy reruns when I was home sick from school.

'It’s not a show that if we took a fresh look at today, we’d think was funny, I don’t think. But there are people who consider those four people their best friends.'

Ball and Arnaz's daughter Lucie Arnaz, who is an executive producer on the project, opened up about the family's endorsement of the film in a statement earlier the year.

'We felt exploring that relationship could be an enlightening challenge,' Arnaz said this past March. 'We asked Amazon for the best and we got it with every hire. Aaron Sorkin has not told this tale as a "cradle to grave" biopic.

'Instead, he’s chosen to illuminate a snippet of time during an incredibly intense period of their show’s enduring success. The casting choices have all been inspired and Desi and I are so looking forward to seeing what this impressive group of actors make of Sorkin’s delicious script.'

Being the Ricardos is slated to debut in select theaters December 10 and on Prime Video December 21.
