Vendors demand inclusion in management committee

Imphal, December 01 2021: The vendors of Tribal Market, Checkon staged a protest on November 29 demanding their inclusion in the formation of Tribal Market Management Committee.

In a meeting with media persons conducted on Monday, Treasurer of Tribal Market Vendor Association Rebecca Lupheng stated that the Association has always functioned with the best interests of the vendors in mind.

However, for a long time, the Director of TD Department and other Government officials have operated without any concern for the vendors, she added.

Rebecca Lupheng further informed that the Association had appealed to the High Court of Manipur to set some rules and regulations regarding the functioning of the market.

The High Court had, in turn, instructed the State to set up guidelines.

However, the guidelines in place are not consistent and keep changing often, she complained and added that the Director of TD Department did not abide by the guidelines on multiple occasions.

Reiterating the Association's demand for inclusion of vendors in the Tribal Management Committee, she continued saying that they had put forth the same demand before, but their demand had fallen on deaf ears and as such led to the protest being staged.
