Warangal: Dialysis patients from the Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts encouraged the state government to set up hemodialysis centers in their respective district headquarters. While there is a 14-bed dialysis center at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Warangal, which was established in April 2018, the Narsampet Government Area Hospital, Jangaon Area Hospital and Mahabubabad Area Hospitals were each equipped with five beds. Every day, 25 to 35 kidney patients visit these hospitals in search of free dialysis.
The dialysis center at MGM is visited by 60 to 65 patients from Hanmakonda, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts. Mohammed Shafiq, 30, a car driver, thanked the state government for setting up a dialysis center at MGMH. “But I urge the government to set up a dialysis center in the Mulugu district, as patients from far away places are forced to travel to Warangal three times a week,” he said, adding that he hails from the Pochapur region. village near Pasra, about 70 km from Warangal.
Another patient, Narsula Sravani, 33, who is undergoing treatment at the MGM Center, also thanked the government for providing free dialysis for kidney patients. “I only have one kidney. But recently it has also shrunk and forced me to go for dialysis, ”she said, adding that setting up a dialysis center in Bhupalpally would help patients like her not to travel to Warangal. A total of 125 patients were registered at the MGM Center and were given time slots, said Naveen Kumar, director of the Dialysis Center at MGM Hospital.
Meanwhile, Medical and Health Department officials said proposals had already been made to set up dialysis centers at Mulugu and Bhupallpally state hospitals. “Mulugu and Bhupalpally have been upgraded to the district hospitals under the National Health Mission (NHM). “We hope that the government will soon set up dialysis centers here as well, as the proposals were already there,” said an official.
