A magistrate court on Tuesday cancelled the non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Param Bir Singh, in an extortion case.
The case was registered at the Marine Drive police station by a builder and developer Shyamsunder Agarwal in July this year.
Mr. Agrawal alleged that Mr. Singh and seven other police officers extorted money from him at the behest of his former business partner Sanjay Punamia.
Mr. Singh had appeared before the Thane Nagar Police station on November 26 in another case of extortion against him. There are reportedly five FIRs against him pertaining to extortion and one in an atrocities case.
Earlier, on November 17, Mr. Singh was declared an absconding accused by a magistrate court in Mumbai. However, he was granted protection from arrest by the Supreme Court on November 22. On November 29, the judicial commission constituted to inquire into the allegations of corruption made by Mr. Singh against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh cancelled the bailable warrant against him.
