Bollywood veteran star Gulshan Grover, who is gearing up for his OTT debut with 'Your Honor' season 2 starring Jimmy Sheirgill, confirmed the rumours that he indeed was roped in for a Bond film to play the antagonist but had to walk out due to an error.
Grover, who made a huge impact in the world of cinema and is still known as the 'bad man', thanks to his mind-blowing performances as the villain of Bollywood films, revealed why he was asked to leave the cast of 2006 film 'Casino Royale'.
In a Spotify exclusive interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Grover opens up about being roped in to play the villain Le Chiffre in the James Bond film, Casino Royale, which was actor Daniel Craig's debut as the 007 agent.
Confirming the rumours, the Bollywood star said that he had already signed the contract to play the antagonist in the film. But due to breach of contract, he had to walk out of the film. Grover had told his close friend in London about the movie deal and next day, the biggest newspaper in the city ran the story with headline 'Bollywood's Bond villain'. That, cost the actor his role in the Hollywood spy-thriller drama.
"I had signed the agreement. Casino Royale was the film. I shared the news with one of my closest friends in London. The biggest newspaper, the Daily Mirror, ran a story with the headline ‘Bollywood’s Bond villain’. Everything that I had said the previous night had been printed. That upset everybody. They said I hadn’t respected the contract, and various other things happened, and I had to leave," Grover said in the interview.
The actor was set to play the primary antagonist of the film, Le Chiffre, which was later offered to 'Hannibal' star Mads Mikkelsen.
Missing out on 'Casino Royale' didn't break Grover's spirit, who still hopes that one day he will play a Bond villain, he's "sure of that".
