As the Assembly elections are round the corner, Dr S Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, conducted a surprise checking of the ongoing process of making votes and electoral rolls in the district and after scrutinising the record, he expressed satisfaction over the working of district election officials.
Later, he held a meeting with the district election officer, all returning officers and block-level officers. He directed the officials that the vote of all those who attained the age of 18 years on January 1, 2020, must be made. He said they should motivate the voters, particularly the young, to exercise their right.
He directed officials to initiate various steps and launch a campaign to create awareness in the public so that the vote percentage could be increased. He also said strict action should be taken against those who try to lure the voters by offering money or with muscle power so that the voting process could take place in a peaceful atmosphere.
