VARANASI: Under the ongoing drive to hit the economic empire of
mafia gangs in the zone, the
Ghazipur police on Sunday attached land and under- construction buildings of an education mafia, Mahendra Kushwaha, worth Rs 4.79-crore.
Providing details of the action on Monday, ADG Varanasi zone Brij Bhushan said, "Mahendra belongs to
Paras Kushwaha gang which is registered as an education mafia. So far, properties of over Rs 24-crore value of this gang have been attached by the police under Gangster Act."
With the approval of action against the education mafia by the district magistrate's court on November 25, the police had geared up preparations to initiate action against Mahendra's property. A team of Ghazipur police raided
Chhavaniline in Fatehullapur on Sunday late afternoon to initiate the process of attachment of a campus on a huge plot, where many buildings were being constructed.
The police said that as per the estimation by SDM, the cost of this property of Mahendra was over Rs 4.79-crore.
The ADG said, "The action against Paras Kushwaha gang was started under the Gangster Act after it became clear that he was running an organized gang of copying in his colleges. This gang used to take contracts from youths across the country to get them enrolled for high school and intermediate Board examinations."
He added, "To facilitate the gullible youths, this gang used to leak examination papers and also enable them in copying to pass exams."
After lodging of cases, Paras and his brothers Rajendra Kushwaha and Mahendra were booked under Gangster Act and their gang was registered in the category of 'nakal' (copying) mafia. Before the attachment of Rs 4.79-crore property of Mahendra, the police had already attached properties of Rs 12.31-crore of Paras and Rs 6.96-crore of Rajendra under Gangster Act, said the ADG, mentioning that the total value of their attached property has gone over Rs 24-crore.
