Imphal, November 29 2021: Manipur Contractor Association Forum has urged to stop violence against migrant labourers, who are working in the state.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Manipur Contractor Association Forum convenor Th Somorendro clarified that he is not encouraging or supporting the migrant workers but as the state lacks labourers, there is still the need for engaging migrant workers in construction of development projects in the State.
While urging for communicating with the departments concerned over any misunderstanding and grievances, he also stressed the need for arranging meeting and discussing with the department or contractor concerned for resolving any issue.
While appealing to all concerned not to repeat the unfortunate incident of perpetrating violence against the migrant workers, Somorendro also lamented that the government is remaining as a silent spectator.
The state government should also give compensation to the deceased worker, he demanded.
Meanwhile, the Forum extended monetary aid to the family of deceased migrant worker Riyajul Aslam of Assam, who worked in constructing the bailey bridge to connect Lilong and Laiphrakpam, and was killed on November 9 around 11.30 pm .
