Shreyas Iyer – who got his debut cap from idol Sunil Gavaskar – scored a ton in the first innings of the Kanpur Test to join the elite list of Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and others. And, followed it with a fifty to become the 1st Indian batter to score a ton and a fifty on debut in Test.
Interestingly, Sunil Gavaskar – who handed Iyer the debut cap – was the last Indian batsman to get 50+ scores in both innings on debut.

Most runs on debut Test (India): With a tally of 170 runs on debut, Shreyas Iyer is the third Indian to score the most runs on debut. Shikhar Dhawan who scored a ton on debut against Australia in Mohali is still at top of the list followed by Rohit Sharma.
