Imphal, November 27 2021: NH-37 Affected Land Owners' Association has warned of imposing bandh from November 29 to 30 if requisite and adequate compensation is not given to the land owners affected by widening of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) road from Oriental College to Keithelmanbi at the earliest.
Announcing this during a press conference at Mani-pur Press Club here on Saturday, Association secretary Erengbam Gandhadit said the order issued by Imphal West DC to evict structures from Oriental College to Keithelmanbi within ten days is unacceptable to the affected land owners as no compensation has been paid so far.
Initially, government tried to widen the road by 75 metres on both sides but it was reduced to 24 metres after objection raised by affected land owners and there has been a written approval for the same, he said, adding that the eviction order without informing the affected land owners personally is unacceptable.
He also said that no eviction can be done without paying compensation and the compensation amount must be calculated as per 2013 land law and not on the outdated 1998 land law.
