Police foil Ian Jagran Abhiyan' rally in Kshetrigao AC

Imphal, November 27 2021: Police foiled 'Jan Jagran Abhiyan' rally led by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary and intending INC candidate for Kshetrigao AC Punam Rani around Kshetrigao area Saturday resulting in a brief clash between Congress workers and police personnel.

The rally under 'Jan Jagran Abhiyan' was set out from Punam Rani's residence at Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai.

The rally then moved towards Ayangpalli road and proceeded towards the DC road through Porompat crossing.

Till DC office at Porompat, police did not obstruct the rally but a large team of police led by SDPO Imphal East stopped the rally when it tried to move towards Lambui Lambel from DC office to culminate at the starting point.

When police snatched placards and festoons from Congress workers, a clash broke out between the two sides.

Regarding the rally, Punam Rani told media persons that 'Jan Jagran Abhiyan' campaign is being launched by Congress party across the country to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and its failures on various fronts especially the unprecedented price rise, unemployment and anti-farmers and anti-poor policies.

The rally as part of the campaign was a democratic one without giving any disturbance to anyone in public interest but it was highly condemnable that police foiled the rally as if they could do anything, she said adding that police action against the participants of the rally was excessive.

The rally was also participated by Imphal East District Congress Committee president N Ajit, Congress workers and many supporters of Punam Rani.
