Imphal, November 26 2021: District and Sessions Judge cum District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West chairman A Guneshwar has stressed the need for the citizens of the country to be aware of their fundamental duties as much as they are eager to understand and enjoy their fundamental rights.
Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and DLSA Imphal West, Imphal and Tamenglong jointly observed Constitution Day at ADR Building, Lamphel Court complex on Friday.
Speaking at the event, A Guneshwar pointed out that for India, the Constitution is the supreme law, with various sub-laws falling under it.
Under the Con- stitution, there is Article 19, which provides the Freedom of Expression.
Many are aware of it and often use it on social media platforms.
However, Article 19 (clause 2 to 6) does not allow making defamatory statements against anyone or statements which are against or could affect the security of the nation.
People seem to be well aware of their fundamental rights but lack knowledge about their fundamental duties which is important for protecting their rights, he added.
The observance was also attended by District and Sessions Judge RK Memcha and MASLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum as presidium members.
Judicial officers, advocates, PLVs and the Court staffers also attended the observance and took part in reciting the preamble of the Indian Constitution.
