War on drugs awareness programme held

Imphal, November 26 2021: NPP Counselling Training Centre (NPPCTC) in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Union of Private Rehabilitation Centre, Kangleipak (UPReCK), The Indigenous Foundation (TIF) and Committee of Civil Societies, Kangleipak (CCSK) organised an awareness programme on war on drugs at Viewland Baptist Church, Ukhrul on Friday.
The awareness programme was attended by AIDS Control Society, Ukhrul district officer Dr Yuntingla Basu, SP Ukhrul Saujana, Social Welfare Department DSO O Mathew, UPReCK general secretary Lakhikuran and CCSK president Jitendra Ningombam as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Jitendra Ningomba highlighted the devastation caused by drugs abuse in the state.
He noted that Ukhrul district has been facing the problem of HIV/AIDS which is related to the same issue.
In India, drug abuse is prevalent in areas where there is conflict of insurgency.
People need to find out the reasons and those who are behind in creating such menace, he continued, while stressing the need to take up initiatives for saving the future and youth in particular sincerely.
CCSK will also extend all possible help in the matter, he assured.
While giving assurance of setting set up a rehabilitation centre in Ukhrul, Lakhikuran revealed that there were seven rehabilitation centres in Ukhrul on official records.
However, not a single rehabilitation could located in reality, he revealed.
