THE VB Nagar police in Kurla registered a case of rape and murder after a decomposed body of a woman was recovered from the terrace of a vacant building in the HDIL colony.

Police late on Saturday arrested two accused in the case, Rizwan Sheikh and his friend Faisal Sheikh.

The body was found by three children staying in the nearby colony, who went to the terrace of building number 16 C at HDIL colony in Kurla at around 5.30 pm on Thursday.

Senior police inspector Rajesh Pawar of VB Nagar police station said, “They had gone there to shoot a video on TikTok when they came across the body. The children then informed the police control room after which we were intimated and the team was sent to the spot.”

The body was found on Thursday evening, but a case was registered only after the post-mortem reports revealed that the woman was sexually assaulted before her death.

After registering an accidental death report, the body was sent to Rajawadi hospital, where the doctors declared her dead before admission. “A post-mortem was conducted and the doctors gave us the report on Friday morning informing that she was raped and murdered,” added Pawar.

An investigating officer added that the doctors believe that the woman was stabbed to death. A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered.

Since then, different police teams were trying to identify the deceased. “We had even circulated the image of the woman among our informers. We had also dispatched teams in the nearby localities and we kept showing pictures of the woman to the residents,” said one of the investigating officers.

However, later the police team came to know that the woman is an 18-year-old and she wanted to marry Rizwan.

“But as he did not want to marry her, he took her to the terrace of the building of the colony and explained to her that he could not marry her. But as she didn’t agree, he murdered her with the help of his friend,” said an officer.

Additional Commissioner of Police Dyaneshwar Chavan (central region) confirmed the arrest of the two accused and said that they are probing to ascertain the reason for raping her.
