Amritsar: Journalists of various newspaper dailies, TV and web channels blocked the outer ring road after a police officer assaulted a web portal journalist last night. A journalist Deepak Kumar and photographer Sahil Kumar visited a spot outside B division police station, where a fire was reported at a shop at midnight. They were covering the incident on a fire tender. Meanwhile, SHO B Division Prabhjot Singh also came to the spot. Deepak Kumar alleged that the SHO asked him to come down from fire tender. When he came down, he slapped him. The journalists alleged that the police officer was under the influence of liquor and dragged Sahil by holding his collar. On Wednesday, the journalists gathered at the police station and demanded action against the SHO. The senior police officers reportedly ignored the journalists. Rajesh Gill, president, press club and other senior journalists reached the spot and blocked traffic. Finally, the SHO apologised from journalists and the traffic resumed. TNS

One held with 125-gm heroin

Tarn Taran: The Patti police have arrested a man with 125-gm heroin on Tuesday. Patti DSP Kuljnder Singh said the accused has been identified as Avtar Singh Tari. He has been booked under Sections 21,61 and 85 NDPS Act, the DSP said. OC

Two illegal stills busted

Amritsar: The Amritsar rural police have busted two illegal stills involved in manufacturing of illicit liquor in Hoshiarnagar village falling under the Gharinda police station here on Tuesday. The police confiscated 840 bottles of illicit liquor, 10,000 litre of lahan and plastic drums from the spot. The police have arrested Jodh Singh and Davinder Singh, both residents of same village. Two fresh cases reported in dist

Amritsar: With two positive cases reported on Wednesday, the total count of Covid cases in the district has increased to 47,421. The district at present has a total of eight active cases. Meanwhile, a total of 14,146 residents were inoculated during the vaccination drive on Wednesday. Of these 5,639 received first dose of the vaccine while 8,507 received second dose. TNS
