TWO-DAY ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE-2021 AND WEEK-LONG CELEBRATIONS COMMEMORATING MAHATMA GANDHI CONCLUDES AT RGU

The two-day ‘Annual International Conference (AIC-2021) on Contextualizing Gandhi in the Paradigms of Literature, Culture and Social Transformation’ which began on the 11th of October, 2021 at Rajiv Gandhi University in online mode ended today with the successful completion of twenty-three Research Paper presentations distributed along five technical sessions and Valedictory Session.

The Conference was jointly organized by the Departments of English and Social Work as part of Week-long celebrations of the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The International Conference followed the 5-day Online Lecture Series and Essay Competition on Mahatma Gandhi from the 4th to the 8th of October 2021 organized by the Department of English and an online Skit and Post Making Competition organized by Department of Social Work and CYDLS.

The Valedictory Session was Chaired by the Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor of RGU, Prof. Amitava Mitra and the Valedictory Address was delivered by Prof. Periyakrishna Moorthy, who is the former Dean and Senior Professor, School of Social Sciences and International Studies, Pondicherry University, Puducherry. The topic of his address was ‘Introspection and Identification of Mahatma within Each Self’.

The Finance Officer of the University, Prof. Otem Padung; the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Tana Showren and other eminent personalities were present during the Valedictory Session. The vital role of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha was acknowledged as the prime source of motivation behind these initiatives by the Organizing President Prof. Bhagabat Nayak, Organizing President and Head, Department of English.

Dr. Ravi Ranjan Kumar, Head i/c, Social Work and Dr. Prachand Narayan Piraji, Assistant Professor, English were the Convenors of the AIC-2021 and also moderated the technical sessions as well as the Valedictory Session.

The prizes and awards to the winners of various categories of competition were also announced during valedictory. There were three different categories of awards for paper presenters. The Gandhian Literary Award for Research Papers from Literary Perspective were awarded to Dr. Rajiv Ranjan Prasad from RGU and Mr. Sumit Kumar Singh from Patna University.

The Gandhian Practice Model Award for practical recommendations to policy makers and practitioners went to Dr. Sharmistha Bhattacharjee of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Tamilnadu and Dr. Kirti Arya from All India institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Award for young scholars on Gandhian Research went to Ms. Dikshita Mahanta and Mr. Tapi Chama.

The AIC-2021 has witnessed participants from Nepal, Scotland, America and Bangladesh including our own country. There were more than forty research papers received for the conference out of which awards were conferred based on presentation, contents and understanding by the paper presentations.
