Bengaluru: ACB traps Group D staffer with 6 houses, KAS officer with Rs 43 lakh

BENGALURU: The Anti-Corruption Bureau seizures unearthed from five city-based government officials on Wednesday baffled citizens and rattled the bureaucracy. The reason: Each of the officials own multiple sites and houses in prime locations where real-estate prices are beyond the reach of ordinary people.
GV Giri, a driver at BBMP Boys’ and Girls’ High School in Marappanapalya, Yeshwantpur, owned six houses and 8 vehicles, including four cars. ACB officials found Rs 1.2 lakh and eight kg of silver in his two-storey house. Asked how a Group-D employee could afford a posh house, Giri sheepishly said: “This was given to me by someone else.”

Other senior officials under the radar attributed the raids to personal and political rivalry. KAS officer LC Nagaraj, who was earlier arrested in connection with the multi-crore IMA scam and raided twice in the past, told mediapersons: “Even if I am raided a thousand times, I will not be bogged down at all. This raid is the result of fears that I will get into politics.”
ACB seized Rs 43 lakh from his house along with property documents relating to 11.3 acres of farmland and an industrial shed in Nelamangala. Nagaraj claimed the cash was from a property transaction and meant to pay medical bills of his family members. He claimed his wife was into floriculture business and the properties belonged to her.
Sleuths found BBMP first division assistant Mayanna to be the owner of four houses and six sites along with two acres of farmland in Bengaluru. He said: “The raids happened in the backdrop of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat polls that I contested. The sites I own are small and given by my family members.”
A revenue inspector in Bengaluru Rural, Lakshminarasimhaiah, owned five houses and six sites. Vasudev RN, former project director of Nirmiti Kendra in Bengaluru Rural, has five houses, six sites in Bengaluru and 10 acres in Magadi. The other two raided officials are B Krishna Reddy of Nandini Milk Products and SS Rajashekhar, physiotherapist at Government Hospital in Yelahanka.
