CHENNAI: A mother-daughter duo suffered injuries and were hospitalised after they fell off from a scooter when a robber snatched their six sovereign gold jewellery at Ambathur on Tuesday.
The woman, Thilakavathy, 64, from Ambattur, was riding pillion with her daughter Sangeetha when the incident took place.
The duo had gone to visit their relatives in Royapettah and were returning home. When they reached a bridge at Pattaravakkam, two bike-borne men followed them for over a kilometre. Police said the two men came closer and lunged for the woman's gold chain.
Sangeetha lost balance of her vehicle and fell on the road. Passersby rescued them after nearly ten minutes and took them to a hospital. Thilakavathy sustained injuries on her head and neck, while Sangeetha sustained bruises all over. Based on their complaint, Ambattur Estate police have launched a hunt for the chain-snatchers. According to the victims, while the rider was wearing a helmet, the pillion rider had covered his face with a mask.
"We are checking the CCTV footage to get the registration number of the vehicle,"a police official said.
