CHANDIGARH: Former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s wife and Congress MP from Patiala Preneet Kaur has been served a show-cause notice by the AICC in-charge of
Punjab affairs, Harish Choudhary, on Wednesday for “antiparty activities” and "siding with her husband's party."
Meanwhile, Amarinder, who is launching his new outfit, Punjab Lok Congress soon said in an interview to a news channel that he would invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to campaign for his party – as he plans to have a seatsharing arrangement with the BJP – and he too will be willing to campaign for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The move follows Preneet hinting that she would support Amarinder in his political endeavours. “I am always with Capt Amarinder Singh as family... rest you would see,” she recently said.
Chaudhary’s letter to Preneet Kaur said, “From the last many days, we are continuously receiving reports from Congress workers, MLAs, leaders from Patiala, and the media about your anti-party activities. This information and news have been coming ever since your husband Captain Amarinder Singh Ji resigned from the party and floated his own party: Punjab Lok Congress. We are also made aware of your open announcements in the media about siding with your husband’s party. Kindly explain your stand on this issue within a period of seven days otherwise the party will be forced to take necessary disciplinary action.”
Reacting to the move, MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid, said Congress had a set system to deal with what is perceived as acts of indiscipline.
Asked whether he would invite the PM to campaign for him, Amarinder said, “Of course I will, and I will go wherever he wants me to go – be it Uttar Pradesh or Uttarakhand where there are a lot of Punjabis, I will go.” He added that he will have qualms in hitting out at his former party, the Congress in the run-up to the 2022 assembly elections.
After an unceremonious exit from Congress, Amarinder has floated ‘Punjab Lok Congress’ and applied for party symbol. There has been political turmoil in the Patiala Municipal Corporation and mayor Sanjeev Sharma, an Amarinder loyalist was asked by councillors to prove his majority.
