Gurgaon: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planning to build a master road, directly linking sectors 82 and 82A, which would make the commute easier between these areas. The authority has already acquired the land for the project and is currently seeking public feedback on its proposal.
“The land required for the project has been cleared of all encroachments and hindrances and handed to us, so the work is immediately executable,” said a senior GMDA official, who did not want to be named. “At present, we are seeking public feedback on the proposal, following which tendering will begin."
The project would involve the construction of the main carriageway, median and side drains, the installation of road safety furniture such as road studs, cat eyes, median markers and metal delineators, and road markings using thermoplastic paint, according to GMDA. The authority would take nearly six months to complete the project once it commences on the ground.
Sectors 82 and 82A are populated areas, with several gated societies and commercial spaces. The former includes Vatika Signature Villas, Vatika India Next, Mapsko Casa Bella and Mapsko Royale Ville.
Residents have welcomed the GMDA decision to construct the "missing link" for the sectors.
“One of the biggest issues in the new sectors in Gurgaon is the lack of connectivity between certain areas, so the building of such 'missing links' are crucial for people residing here. We only hope that the project materialises on the ground soon. Such projects, so often, get delayed because of encroachments, litigation or tussles between different agencies. We only hope that does not happen here,” said Vinay Chaudhary, a resident of Sector 82.
The construction of the “missing links” has been the main focus of the GMDA over the past few months. At a meeting of the Core Planning Cell (CPC) in October, a proposal had been tabled for building 13 "missing links" between sectors 82 and 93 to make these areas "well-connected" and "serviceable" for the public.
Earlier this month, a GMDA team, in an inspection, explored the barriers to constructing the “missing links”. Officials then found nearly 45 "missing links" between the newly-developed sectors 58 and 115 but work on the same, officials said, had got complicated due to encroachment and litigation.
