Man set for trial in Longmont attempted murder case
Nov. 24—A man facing sentencing on an assault conviction and awaiting trial on separate attempted murder charges has been deemed competent enough for both of his cases to proceed.
Jereld Doucet, 45, was found guilty in March of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, second-degree assault -strangulation, child abuse, harassment and felony menacing for striking a woman over the head with a guitar in 2019.
Doucet also has another pending case in Boulder County after he reportedly attacked another man with a machete in Longmont in 2020.
Doucet in the case is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, child abuse, felony menacing, tampering with a witness, violation of a protection order, violation of bond and five sentence enhancers.
Both cases were delayed after attorneys raised competency concerns in May, but the mental health stay on the case was lifted in October, according to court records.
Doucet is now set for a five-day trial in the attempted murder case starting May 9.
Doucet is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend with a machete and hitting him in the back of the head in June 2020.
A sentencing hearing in the 2019 case has not yet been rescheduled, according to online court records.
