Ever since TikTok started to become massively popular, rival social media platforms started mimicking it. These include Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Snapchat Spotlight but in recent times, internet companies beyond social media have started doing the same as well. Netflix released a TikTok-inspired feature called Fast Laughs and now, Spotify has joined the race as it has begun beta testing something similar.

Spotify's take on TikTok is currently in an early phase of testing and is available only for a few randomly selected users. Chris Messina, a product designer, was one of the first to notice and tweet about the new feature. If you are one of the beta testers, you will see a new Discover tab in the Spotify app's bottom navigation bar. It sits between the existing Home and Search tabs.

Tapping on Discover brings a vertical feed of short videos for you to browse. The whole experience is exactly like how it is to browse TikTok clips. A user can heart a video if they like it or simply skip it to keep browsing. It supports swipe up and down gestures to help users jump from one clip to the next. Each clip has a three-dot icon that can be tapped to get additional information about the song like the name of the artist and album.

It is reported that Discover is powered by Canvas, a feature Spotify released about a couple of years ago. It was meant to allow creators to share short videos of their songs to boost user engagement. However, it only managed to gain mixed responses with some liking it and others disliking it. It seems like Spotify has decided to give it a spin and launch it in a new package. The officials have not shared when and if it will be released for the masses but if that happens, we will keep you posted.
